The event holding period will be from April 1st to June 1st ,2025 and will be ran on the weekend. A safety brief and running schedule will the morning of the comp, meet time to be announced.

Comp Format
There will be 20 competitors :
5 heats of 4 competitors to battle it out.
Heats will be 1 hour.
The top scoring ride in a heat is doubled. So if a surfer attains high scores a 7.00 and 8.00 the heat would register as a 23.00 (8.00 x 2 = 16 ,16 + 7 = 23). A 30-point maximum heat total. The rider with the most points at the of the day wins.

DECLARATION OF BOATING ACTIVITY EXEMPTION
Marine Safety Act 2010 (Vic)
Safe Transport Victoria makes the following declaration under section 203(3) of the Marine Safety Act 2010 (Vic).
For the purposes of boating activity conducted by West Coast Bodyboard Club on the waters of Logans Beach, Warrnambool, persons and vessels involved in the 2025 Big Wave Challenge are exempt from the following requirements:
State Rules made under the Marine Act 1988
Clause 2(a) – must not exceed 5 knots within 50 metres of a person in the water
Clause 2(c) – must not exceed 5 knots within 50 metres of another vessel
Clause 4(a) – must not exceed 5 knots within 200 metres of the water’s edge
Clause 19(a) – an observer must be used when towing a person.
Marine Safety Regulations 2023
Regulation 60 – master must not engage in towing unless an observer is on board
Regulation 61(2) – master requirement to carry lifejacket on vessel on coastal waters for each person onboard (or being towed)
Regulation 66(1) - person must wear a lifejacket of type specified at all times when underway on coastal waters
Regulation 69 - person being towed must wear a compulsory lifejacket
Regulation 70(1) & (3) - master must not tow or allow a vessel to tow a person unless wearing lifejacket
Subject to the conditions detailed below:
Masters of personal watercraft (PWC) vessels are only exempt from item 1 to 9 when undertaking a rescue operation to retrieve persons in distress, provide for their initial medical or other needs and deliver them to a place of safety on shore.
Masters of PWC vessels are exempt from items 1 to 5 for the duration of the event only. Exemptions for items 1 & 2 only apply when within 50 metres of a competing person or other PWC vessel. PWC operators must not exceed 5 knots within 50 metres of a person in the water or other vessels not associated with the event should they enter the event area.
Masters of PWC vessels are only exempt from items 6 & 9 for the duration of the events when retrieving or rescuing a person without a lifejacket from the water.
Competitors are only exempt from items 7 & 8 when competing in the events.
All PWC operators must wear a lifejacket at all times during the event and must carry all prescribed safety equipment (waterproof buoyant torch).
The exemptions apply from 6:00am to 5:00pm on the chosen weekend between the event window period of 1 April 2025 and 1 June 2025 within the coastal waters of Logan Beach, Warrnambool.
The exemptions apply provided the stated safety controls and undertakings detailed in the application form and associated documentation are adhered to.
